Wine 1.2.1

October 20th, 2010 by

Quick update:

First, Thank you very much for all the feedback, books and donations lately. I’m in the process of answering as many mails as time allows. For the books: Amazone does not give out the donators name, so forgive me, if I’m not able to thank you personally… I really appreciate it and I enjoy the reading – NO, this does not take away time from WineBottler πŸ˜‰ .

Second, compiled Wine 1.2.1, you can find it here:
http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/wine/

Third: WineBottler 1.2 and Wine 1.3.x builds are on hold until November. A big project of a customer hits a major milestone on October 27th. (That’s the WorldDidact in Basel, Switzerland, if you happen to be close, meet us at the Ingold/profax booth πŸ˜‰ ).

Yours
Mike

Finally: still causing trouble…
Adobe is updating flash at an increased rate. This leads to a lot of sha1 mismatches, as the winetricks team is always some hours behind an update. So your installation of ie6 or steam might fail because of that. I will remove Flash from the default installation in WineBottler 1.2. You’ll be able to install it with WineTricks if needed.

  2. Excellent! I was able to install IE 6.0 successfully! It seemed to install Flash twice, but that didn’t seem to cause any problems. The website that keeps pulling me back to IE – onefacility.com – works, although the site doesn’t display quite right. If you want to fuss, let me know and I’ll get you the html code that it seems to be tripping over, but as I said, it works, you just have to click in unmarked areas to get where I need to go but can’t in Safari…. Thanks!

  5. I still cannot get wine or winebottler to pass command-line arguments to my windows app. The website says this is fixed in winebottler 1.2, but I would REEEEEALY appreciate a release that contained just this one little bit of extra functionality.

  6. I’m also having problems with Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro. I can’t even copy it to the Applications folder. It gets stuck at 187.3MB…

  7. Hi mike. first of all thank for the winebottler, great solution.
Here is my problem. When i install the Metatraer 4 trough the Winebottler everything goes fine, but if i install the metatrader from my broker it doesn’t start up. (i have selected the vcrun which is also beeing installed with the build in prefix.)
here is my question: since the prefix downloads automatically a mt4-setup file from alpari.us i assume its also possible to download the setup from alpari.co.uk. can i modify a sh file somewhere inside the package? or can i see the settings for the prefix file?

    cheers Michael

  8. Just downloaded WineBottlerCombo_1.1.44, but it fails on installing IE6 when trying to install flash. Since you report that flash is a problem, maybe you could have an additional install for IE that didn’t install flash? I certainly don’t need it πŸ™‚

BTW. The product seems great and a lot better than stock winetricks or other options I have tried out on the mac. IE7 runs _great_ on my MacBook πŸ™‚

This happened to me with all sorts of wine versions, from the one bundled with WineBottler and 1.20 and 1.21. Running Snow Leopard with latest updates and I’m behind a proxy, if that helps…

  10. Thanks for this build!

Now i have two (one?) question though:
I want to play Battleforge. After many tries and stuff I finally got it running, although it doesn’t support keyboard.
Now there’s a patch to fix this issue, but for that I would either have to patch wine (sudo patch -p1 < ../bf-wine.diff is the original command for that) or compile my own.
I can't patch yours. But if I try to compile my own, it always says that it doesn't find freetype. I do think that because you compiled your own you should have come to this issue, and solved it.

Am I right? Do you know how to get a self-compiled wine running including freetype?
Or if that is easier, how do I patch your version? Is that possible?

    Greetings,

    Ivorius

  11. I’m have a question that has come up as I’m trying to install WineBottler on my MacBook because I need Internet Explorer for a work-related software program I need to use. Please note I’m not particularly tech savvy so you’ll need to use simple English in your response.

Initially when I ran the install I told it not to install Flash and so it ran an error program. Now when I’m trying to run the install again and have told it to install Flash the install has gotten stuck at that point in the install. I don’t know what to do to get past this.

If you can provide me some guidance or point me in the right direction I’d be most grateful. Thanks

  13. In order for Internet Explorer 8 to work, one must add a new value to the registry, as explained on the WineHQ website: “Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main

Add a new DWORD value there named TabProcGrowth with the value 0 (which should be the default).”
Maybe WineBottler should do it automatically or at least warn the user to do it manually.

  14. Quick question: I’m very unfamiliar with WineBottler, so I’m wondering: I need to install a Window-based statistics program (SAS). I have a newer MacBook Pro. Without partitioning (and installing Windows for Mac) or running virtual windows, can WineBottler allow me to install and run this application/program?

    Thanks.

  15. How difficult is it to build winebottler with the latest sources, or make a version which uses whatever version has already been built into either /usr/local or /opt

  16. It seems I’m unable to run windows programs on the command line anymore. Spits a lot of errors, then freezes or crashes.

  17. Dear Mike, please provide a valid link to Wine_1.2.1.dmg as the default one has been dead for weeks… even if you won’t work anymore on Wine, please at least (a) let us know and (b) let us have Wine 1.2.1 for basic operations… Thank you in advance for all your work –Konsti
