Darwine 0.9.49 with freetype 2.3.5 [updated 2]

Keep me going
give me coffee! Smoke 1 Smoke 2 Smoke 3

Geeks just have to pay double - but in the end it pays.
This is a first shot at building darwine for Leopard with included freetype for antialiased fonts. It's built against X11 4.2 in the hope to have a result that runs on Tiger and Leopard. But as I don't have a spare external HD to install Tiger, I can not test it atm.

Why did it take so long?

  • I was in good hope to get OpenGL running by now... but it's still broken on X11 7.2. So I decided to go for a version that runs on 10.4 and 10.5.
  • WineHelper and distrib needed some patching to build on Leopard (patch submitted to darwine project)
  • Leopard has a new way of starting X11. Most important, $DISPLAY has to be set correctly - but on Leopard, $DISPLAY is a random value, that is not accessible from within cocoa apps. [[[NSProcessInfo processInfo] environment] objectForKey:@"DISPLAY"] will always return @"localhost", which is wrong... another bug.) A way to get the current $DISPLAY if not set by bash is export DISPLAY="$(find -f /tmp/launch-* -name :0)"

ies4osx 2.5beta6_1 [updated]

As ies4osx got a little more exposure as I'd expected, I put up a new version, that should fix some issues we discussed in the comments. Thank You very much for all the feedback!

Some fixes and added features since the last post:

  • GUI
    no more terminal
  • Freetype
font-antialiasing included (it also comes with my latest pakage of Darwine)
  • new routines to locate Your darwine folder
  • toolbar-icons
by andi meier (hope you sponsor a new App icon, too ;))
  • many fixes

You can grab Your copy here, or right from the new home of ies4osx over at www.kronenberg.org/ies4osx where you find a simple howto, too.

If You should encounter any bugs, please open the log (toolbar-icon) and send the messages to ies4osx@kronenberg.org.

enjoy!

Just made a new version, that tries to find "unorthodox" Darwine installations when launching IEs. You find it over here here Txs to Thomas for pointing out.

ies4osx

ie4osx :) [updated]

ies4osxInternet Explorer for OS X, that is.

Helps You to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, 5.5 and 6 on your mac. This tool might be helpful for all those mac artists that have to design websites for windows guys ;).

The credits on this one go to ies4linux. I have just adapted some methods to use tools that ship with OS X and included a current cabextract. Well I added a routine to download all the public available Microsoft fonts and 3 Automaters to start the explorers comfortably from the desktop.

I did not invest a lot of time on testing. It's currently working on my MB pro 10.4.10.

  1. install X11 from your OS X installation disk
  2. download Darwine 0.9.47, mount it and drag the folder 'darwine' into your 'Applications' folder
  3. download ie4osx-2.0.5, unzip it
  4. cd to the folder "ies4osx-2.0.5" (for non cmdline savvies: type "cd", drag the folder "ies4osx-2.0.5" into the terminal window, hit return)
  5. type "./ies4osx.sh" (this will download, extract and install the internet explorers you chose, aswell as the corefonts)

sorry Intel only - enjoy, Mike

Internet Explorer on wine

Txs to Bisente for pointing out how to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 5, 5.5 and 6 in wine on OS X. It's an easy install with his step by step howto. It makes mainly use of tanakas ies4linux, the one-stop-solution for ie on linux and some tools installed by fink.

If interest is there, I might change his script to use darwine, curl, and a precompiled cabextract, so you don't have to install fink to run it. Drop me a line...

Mike

PS... here was my post with the little script to install the corefonts to darwine. Might come in handy with iex.
