WineBottler | 1.6

Keep me going
give me coffee! Smoke 1 Smoke 2 Smoke 3

WineBottlerThis one was on its way for a long time: WineBottler 1.6.

With OS X 10.9 Mavericks dropping in, I had to go some extra miles to have WineBottler back, running the way it was intended to.
I invite you to test this new version that should fix some major issues, before we're going to declare it the new stable and move on with versions 1.6.1 and 1.7.x.

Especially these these two buggers should be gone now:

  • libraries: Massive cleanup for Mavericks, especially icotool comes now with it's own deps.
  • Codesigning: Recompiled all frameworks with proper code signing to satisfy the new Gatekeeper guidelines.

Further more, we did some work on

  • prefix templates: Fixed. Now you can create an app with - say - Java and use it as a template to create new apps with exe needing Java.

Wine.app 1.6 was updated to Wine 1.6. (1.6.1 and 1.7.x are on the way, too 🙂 )

WineBottler 1.6

And as usual: Thank you for your feedback so far! And I'm still looking for

  • Installation Logfiles of failed installations (and if possible, how you solved the problem 🙂 ).
  • The most pressing questions that should go into a FAQ.
  • Suggestions for new automated Installations

Just send me a mail or tweet @k3erg, and I might even get around to answer some.

Now head over to WineBottler and get the new builds.

Enjoy!
Mike

PS: Going to recheck a lot of checksums of the automated downloads this week, and weed out some of the obsolete apps.

WineBottler | 1.4.1.6 & 1.6-rc5

WineBottlerBumped to WineBottler 1.4.1.6 and 1.6-rc5.

This release of WineBottler has an eye on "special" .exe names, i.E. spaces, non-alphanumeric characters and certain starting letters .Looks like we still had some trouble with escaped characters at some points, which caused some trouble with a lot of newer programs with fancy names 🙂 : This is fixed in stable and development.

Wine.app 1.6-rc5 was updated to Wine 1.6-rc5.

Now, we're getting closer to run the GameStop PC Download App on the Mac.

PS.
I get reports that running Wine.app on OS X 10.9 is not working, yet (without using a custom built icotool, txs Kim). So... only do it, if you know what you are doing. I'll let you know once it's save to surf the Mavericks.

WineBottler | 1.6-rc3

WineBottlerWineBottler 1.6-rc3 is ready for testing. Looks like we finally can keep up with Wine again :).

WineBottler has received a lot of fixes and a new app in the automated installations section. For Wine changes see wine announce.

Now, that the new setup for Wine 1.6 and the website is starting to move in a direction I like, I'm looking into improving help... without investing to much time into one-to-one support.

You can help WineBottler out with dropping me a mail or tweet @k3erg. with:

  • Installation Logfiles of failed installations (and if possible, how you solved the problem 🙂 ).
  • The most pressing questions that should go into a FAQ.

Suggestions for new automated Installations are welcome as well.

WineBottler | How to Install Notepad++ on a Mac

WineBottlerUse WineBottler to run Notepad++ on OS X, without installing Windows.

Just got a tweet from @codylloydwright, why WineBottler is missing an automated install of Notepad++. How very right he is, I'm using Notepad++ a lot on Windows, so why not on OS X?

I added it to the automated installs and made it my next video tutorial. (Subscribe to the new MikesMassiveMess YouTube Channel to stay up to date on other howtos.)

Installing Notepad++ on a Mac

  1. Download WineBottler 1.6.x from http://winebottler.kronenberg.org
  2. Copy WineBottler and Wine.app to your Mac.
  3. Start WineBottler.
  4. Search for "notepad" in the "Download" Section, click "Notepad++"
  5. Give the App a name.
  6. Wait 🙂 .
  7. Done. Run Notepad++ from "On My Mac" or from wherever you have installed the App to.
  8. If Notepad++ finds some updates, just let it install them - select "Restart Notepad++" after the updates are installed. Wait for Notepad++ to apply the updates and relaunch itself.

Enjoy!
Mike

WineBottler | 1.4.1.5 & 1.6-rc2

WineBottlerWineBottler is going into another round - or two - with the release of 1.4.1.5 of the (still) stable tree and 1.6-rc2 of the (soon to be stable tree).

Beside the latest wine changes, they contain fixes – mainly for the nasty "sanitized.sh" bug, which would break your App, if the name contained spaces.

I still hear, that some users have problems with missing ntlm_auth. So please keep an eye on related error messages in the log, if a build should fail. In that case, please make sure, that you have no older WineBottler and Wine.app installed on your system. WineBottler is using Spotlight to look for Wine.app – this means it might select an old version. Just archive or delete the old versions. If the error persists, please send me a note.

WineBottler Dwonload Window

Wine is finally in codefreeze for 1.6. So, no new features – only bugfixes – until we have a new stable release.

For the release of WineBottler 1.6, I've planned some new features – as the new Mac Driver (that replaces X11) on the one hand opens new possibilities, but on the other hand forces me to rearrange features I had in place for Wine.app for a long time (like the status-bar menu).
At least, we have already achieved basic functionality with the development builds of WineBottler: You can use Wines latest and greatest – but without some of the WineBottler amenities.

Wine.app 1.6-rc2 is already working great for loads of Windows-based programs. But some still need extra libraries or treatment.
This is why I'm very interested in WineBottler Log-Files, at the moment. If WineBottler should fail to install your program – for whatever reason – please mail me the log. I'll have a look at it, and if time permits, I'll send you a hint.

Now head over to WineBottler and get the new builds.

Enjoy!
